A Rainy Day....

It was a drizzly day and Dunster the Bear was very unhappy about having to wear his hat and scarf! ‘I miss the summer’ he sulked to himself. Pulling on his yellow Wellington boots, he scowled as he looked out of the window and saw the dark clouds bucketing down! Nothing could cheer him up today! ‘Rain, rain and more rain’ he grunted whilst buttoning up his thick winter coat. ‘IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE SUMMER!’ he yelled kicking at his umbrella, causing it to fly across the living room and send a BANG through the house. Gosh, Dunster the Bear was a grumpy bear today!
Dunster the Bear stomped across the room and plonked his fluffy bear-self down on his big bear-sized sofa. With a huge scowl on his face, he crossed his arms and sulked! It wasn’t until twenty minutes later that Dunster the Bear’s mum came into the room. ‘What’s wrong?!’ she frowned knowing all too well that this Bear could be rather difficult to handle when in one of these moods! ‘The sun’s gone! My scarf rubs my neck! My wellies are too tight! My hat makes my head hot………..!’ (And I think you can tell the rest from here!) Dunster the Bear’s mum tried to connect to his better nature. ‘Ok, why don’t we forget the weather for today? Let’s do something fun inside?’ But Dunster the Bear was far too cross to listen to this! All he wanted to do was to sit outside, with the sun browning his fur and relax.
‘Ok, ok! We could watch a nice film, with a big bowl of popcorn! How about that? ’ Even grumpy Dunster the Bear had to admit that the prospects of this brightened his mood! Mum never allowed sweets before dinner time! But then as Dunster the Bear thought about his film collection his spirits dropped. ‘Barney the Bear in Spain’ , ‘Goldilocks and the three Bears go on holiday’ and ‘The Brown Bears go swimming’ all reminded Dunster the Bear of how much fun he was missing now the sun was gone!
As the moody Bear mumbled to himself, his mum realised that she needed to take matters into her own hands. Quietly she scurried up the stairs and grabbed as many items as she could. With her arms bulging full she returned to the living-room. Dunster the Bear watched as his mother laid two beach towels across the floor, placed a parasol between the two, switched on a CD full of summer songs and dashed to the kitchen. The Bear’s scowl was beginning to weaken as he watched his mum’s attempts, but he wasn’t ready to smile just yet. Until, his mother returned with a tray full of ice-cream, sweets, and two large glasses of pink lemonade filled with ice-cubes and colourful umbrellas! Dunster the Bear broke out into the biggest grin his mum had ever seen! They were going to have a summer’s day after all!
